It's very hard to get into some vehicles that people build today. Whether it is a factory suspension from the dealer, or a creation of your own lifting your truck with a suspension or body lift. It still remains the same that no matter what you have you must be able to get into it without throwing a rope to the other side to lift people into your car. A Nerf bar or tube step is a tubular device fitted to the side of a race car, typically single-seat race cars that compete on asphalt or dirt oval tracks. A "Nerf" is a small, sometimes intentional, collision between two cars in which one driver bumps the other to facilitate a successful pass. The Nerf bar protects the sides of the vehicles and also keeps their tires from becoming entangled. If fast-spinning tires come in contact with each other, one or both of the cars may lose control or even become airborne. A more commercial application of the Nerf bar is for convenience purposes on a pickup truck or sport utility vehicle. It may act as a step to ease entry and exit from the vehicle, or to help prevent damage to the vehicle when crossing rocks off-road. The term is sometimes applied to the foot-rests on a motorcycle. Nerf bars are typically made from either stainless steel, chrome or powder-coated steel, although there are considerable variations in style and design. There are different length steps as well, the more popular cab length or wheel to wheel tube step which is the more expensive step.

The other alternative would be the running board. Although usually a little less popular another great way to help you into your truck or SUV is the running board. These are usually around the same price of the tube step, and also come in different finishes, just as the tube steps do. Running boards are usually heavier then a tube step, and installation is also the same.

Last but not least would be the step. This application works the same as a tube step or running board, it aides you in getting in your vehicle. This option is less expensive then most tube steps and running boards, but usually a little lacking when it comes to looks. On a positive note they are much less bulky, and they are preferred by many off-roaders.
