Tonneau Covers are used on trucks to cover, secure, and prevent weather damage for the bed of the truck. The main reason people have them is to save them big money at the pump. There are many different brands, materials, and colors available.

The most basic and cheapest type is a soft cover made from either cloth or vinyl using a rib-like system to keep the fabric tight and help support the weight of the cover. This method replaces the old method of installing a snap system, which were permanently attached to the truck and also took a very long time to put the cover on and take it off.

The most popular for price for what you get is the roll-up type cover. This cover uses a unit mounted at the front of the bed right by the cab, that has retractable fabric cover that can be rolled out and secured at the end of the bed. This has become the more popular item because of its ease of installation and the little amount of time it takes to cover and uncover the bed of your truck.

Another mid priced option would be the tri-fold tonneau cover. These covers are very easy to use since you can open them section by section, depending on how much of your bed you are wanting to expose. They are similar to closure of the roll up cover, by Velcro holding it secure at the cab side of your bed.

The most expensive, but popular because of the great appearance is the hard plastic or Fiberglass tonneau cover. These many times can be painted to match the truck exactly, unlike other that can sometimes come in different colors yet are not exact factory matched colors, they are solid in construction (see picture below), and can be locked like a trunk so they are more secure then other covers. Some of these covers are very heavy, but yet some are still very light (pictured below), gas struts are usually used in assisting to open and also keep open, much like some hoods for cars.
